Something fishy here with this dev methinks. I wish I had read those reviews first and I also wonder why the App Store allows two separate apps by the same developer which do the same thing, just at different price points. It also has problems and negative reviews. Update: I just figured out that this app is exactly the same as "Screen Lights" (also in the App Store) by the same developers. I have been using "Hacker Vision" extension for Chrome recently, and it works very well indeed in comparison to this - but of course it's limited to browser use only. I will update this review if another version comes along that works (I will test each one for sure). Until the developer of NightScreen makes improvements that actually allow this app to work, I cannot recommend it. The "invert colors" option just makes everything look really ugly and is exactly the same as the same setting offered for free in the Accessibility section of System Preferences. I see no way to be able to use those two sliders they are both greyed out. This is true whether or not the app is set to "On" or "Off". After launching NightScreen and clicking on the menubar controller, it is not possible to move either one of the two sliders ("color" or "dim") at all. I am running OS 10.11.6 El Capitan on a late 2015 PC 15". I am not usually one to write a negative review for anything, but in this case, I have to help others who might be considering purchasing this app: DON'T DO IT.
